HANKS ON TV: BATMAN TRULY BEGINS ON ‘GOTHAM’

The season finale of Fox’s “Gotham” last May gave us a moment we’ve all been waiting for: Bruce Wayne fighting crime in the streets of Gotham City.

It was an iconic moment three years in the making for actor David Mazouz, and he’ll be suiting up this season – with a cowl, but no bat ears just yet.

The fan favorite series returned yesterday (Sept. 21st) and several members of the cast spoke to the press at San Diego Comic-Con about what to expect for the characters this season (a few minor spoilers: Butch becomes Solomon Grundy and Barbara isn’t dead).

Enjoy!

BRUCE WAYNE:

Ben McKenzie (Jim Gordon): We are certainly leaning into Bruce getting ever closer to his ultimate persona. Bruce is starting down the road to his vigilante role but he’s still learning it. Jim is oblivious to that – at least initially – but we will see how far the two have come since season one.

OSWALD (PENGUIN) AND GORDON:

McKenzie: Into Gotham’s void of villainy, Penguin has usurped the law completely and he controls what crime is permitted in Gotham. Jim is left alone: no one is on his side, not even Harvey, so he is left to find new allies, and that includes Sofia, daughter of Don Falcone.

SELINA KYLE:

Camren Bicondova (Selina): We will see her journey to becoming Catwoman very heavily in season 4.

You’ll get to see this new side of Selina that you don’t normally see – she’s calmer and she deals with things in a more adult manner; she doesn’t lash out as much.

There will be a version of, but not exactly the Catwoman suit. Selina is more into leather than latex.

EDWARD (RIDDLER) NYGMA:

Cory Michael Smith (Edward): I unthaw but my mind doesn’t function as it did before. I’m confronted with the fact that my head, the one thing I had, isn’t the same way it was… who am I?

BRUCE AND SELINA’S RELATIONSHIP:

Bicondova: They will interact this season…

Even though she doesn’t say much to him, the fact that she even showed up to the hospital last season showed that she cared. I thought it showed the core of their conflict.
